HAPPY HOLIDAYS¡

You did very well in the play. Too bad Dario didn´t came, he was a very good Baby Bear. Silvia did quite well, she already knew Baby Bear´s lines from listening to them so often.

Anyway, I´ll see you next year in 2014. I hope you get everything you asked Santa for Christmas.

See you in January,

Your teacher Begoña.

Yesterday we prepared the stage set for our play. Well, we did not finish it, the other group will have to complete it.

We made The Little House in the Forest where the family of bears live. We learned some words related to the house and the landscape.

Roof, wall, window, bench, chimney, curtains, hills, bushes.

During the second half of the class we were rehearsing Goldilocks. Laura and Marta were missing, so Silvia had to play Laura´s lines and the teacher had to read the part of the story that Marta usually does. I hope everybody comes next week.

Come on Laura! Where were you yesterday? And you, Marta, are you not coming back?

Most of the actors know their lines already, so now they are trying to perfect their acting and their pronunciation.

The last 5 minutes students answered 5 questions for the Olympic Games. Here are the scores:

Player 2   3.5
Player 4   5
Player 5   4
Player 6   4
Player 7   2

The maximum number of points they could get this time was 5.

Today Jennifer told us about her daily routine. We found out a few things about her and her family, for instance, that her parents drink coffee in the morning but Jennifer and Amy, her sister, drink hot milk.

Students wrote some questions for her and then asked her. Some of the students asked: Do you live in Alamo Street? or What do you do after breakfast? or even Does Amy have breakfast with you? or What does Amy do after breakfast? Jennifer could not answer this last question, she said she didn´t know.

Today, again, we rehearsed the play: today Silvia and Laura were here, but Marta was missing, so the teacher always has to play somebody´s role.

The bears were practising the pronunciation of their lines, now they do it much better. Goldilocks did it without looking at the paper. That´s GREAT¡

Hi boys and girls¡

Yesterday we spent a good part of the lesson reahearsing for the play: Goldilocks. So the ones that  were not here - Laura and Silvia - must remember to study their lines at home. And the rest of you should also practice their lines, because if you don´t know them by heart you will have to hold the paper in your hand during the play and won´t be able to think about things like eating all the porridge- Miriam- or sounding like a real bear - Saúl.

We were also practicing numbers: from 1 hundred to 9 hundred. And the words: after, then and next. Students had to link numbers on the board: they had to find the next number and connect it with the one before. That´s what the Olympic Games were about. Students had to write the numbers they were told. We did it at the end of the lesson so I did not have time to write down their scores, which are on their notebooks. I´ll publish them next week.

We continued studying daily actions.

Homework

Interview your father or your mother. Ask him or her.
1 What do you do after work? Do you come home?
2 What do you do first in the morning?
3 Do you get dressed after you have breakfast?
4 Do you brush your teeth after you get dressed?

Example of answers:
1 No, I don´t come home, I go shopping.
2 I put on my slippers.
3 No, I don´t, I have breakfast after I get dressed.
4 Yes, I do.

DON´T BE LAZY, DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

Here is the script for the narrators in Goldilocks.

Silvia will do the yellow parts.

Marta wiil do the green parts.

In between I marked the lines of the different characters: G for Goldilocks, DB for Daddy Bear, MB for Mummy Bear and BB for Baby Bear.

Once upon a time there was a Little girl. Her name was Goldilocks, she had Golden hair.

One day Goldilocks was walking in the forest. She saw a house.
Oh, what a sweet little house ¡
She knocked on the door.
Who is there?
Nobody was there.

Goldilocks saw 3 bowls on the table. She was hungry.
I´m hungry ¡ What´s this?

Goldilocks woke up and saw the 3 bears. She run downstairs and into the forest and never came back again.

 Please study your lines.

In our last lesson we were asking questions in the Present Simple. We asked about things we do every day. We also learned how to give short answers.

Do you wash your hair every day? Yes, I do. or No, I don´t
or
Does your friend read books every day? Yes, he does, or No, he doesn´t.
Does your mother cook dinner every day? Yes, she does, or No, she doesn´t.

Students worked with a partner and had to write 6 questions for 2 other classmates. They all did a very good job¡

We started a new unit. We listened to a recording and had to put some pictures in order. It was about what a girl does after school. After school, she listens to music, then she does her homework, then she has dinner with her family, next she goes out with her friends and then she plays video games on the computer.

HOMEWORK
What do you do after school?

miércoles, 13 de noviembre de 2013

What´s the date?

Remember, if somebody asks you that question you must reply something like this:

                                November 13th, 2013

Students were looking at a clock and saying the time. But if you don´t know what time it is and you need to ask someone you must say:

                                      What time is it?

We studied some daily actions, things that we do every day.

get up
get dressed
wash my face
wash my hands
brush my hair
have breakfast
brush my teeth
walk to school
study
play in the playground
do exercise
cook dinner
take the trash out
take the dog out for a walk
talk on the phone
play with my friends
have a shower or a bath
go to bed
I hope you learn all those words for next day, that way Miriam won´t be  the only winner when we play Around the World.

We started the lesson saying when is our birthday and then each student said the birthday of somebody in their family.
Students asked each other: what time do you get up? and they answer the question.

We continue with the school subjects unit. Today students learned things they study in each one of the subjects:
nouns and verbs  in English or Spanish, mountains and rivers in Geography, drawing and painting in art, addition and multiplication in maths.
We learned some irregular plurals, like child/children, man/men, woman/women. These plurals are irregular because usually nouns only take an s to be plural: book/books.

Today there were 2 teams competing in the Olympic Games: they had to pick up a little paper from a bag and answer a question. These are the scores.

miércoles, 30 de octubre de 2013

We started the lesson as usual: saying the day of the week and the date and talking about the weather. Students spelled their last name and ask the next student to do it.

Most of them had done their homework, GOOD FOR YOU, so we were practicing questions like:

What do you have on Monday for your first period? Students got together with a partner and asked him or her that information for every day of the week.

Later the teacher explained how to say the time. Most students already knew how to do it  but it was good for them to go over it. For the Olympic Games they were given a worksheet with 8 clocks and they had to write the time for each. They also had to ask questions orally: What´s the time on clock 6?

Player 2   9
Player 3   7
Player  4   10
Player 5    8

Students said all the words related to school they could think about. Then we talked about the subjects they have:

We listened to a recording and had to put in order the subjects they heard.

They asked each other: What´s your first subject on Monday?

We reviewed the clock and how to tell the time. What time do you start school? I start school at 9.

Students filled up a worksheet which showed the timetable of 3 different children. Then we had our Olympic Games: They had to ask another student: What does  X (name of child) have on (day of the week)?

Homework for next week: Write the date of birth of everybody in your family.

Example: My mother´s date of birth is: September 6th, 1980
First we were reviewing the months. January, February, March ... etc. and backwards: December, November, October...
Today in our lesson we were learning how to say the date. Before that and as warming up students ask one another questions about the weather today and yesterday. They had to come up with the questions themselves. A classmate would answer.
Students lined up and said which position in the line they were.
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th ....
21st, 31st, 23rd, 22nd....
We played a game: each student had a calendar and they had to move accross it going from box to box. they had to say the date they were on. The other students had to note it down on their own calendar.
We learned how to say the years. Finally we had a little contest where students had to write down the dates that the teacher dictated.
